Prague Castle confirmed on Tuesday that US President Barack Obama would be met upon arrival in the capital on Saturday by both the Czech Prime Minister Mirek Topolánek and President Václav Klaus. The announcement comes after considerable debate and speculation over the matter. The American Embassy in Prague also announced on Tuesday that Mr Obama would be delivering his only public European speech at Hradčanské náměstí – a main square near Prague Castle that offers a panorama of the city’s skyline. Prior to his address, which is expected to centre on nuclear disarmament, Mr Obama will be meeting with his Czech counterpart and will afterwards be attending an EU-US summit at Prague’s Congress Centre. A meeting with former Czech president Václav Havel is also planned for the weekend.
