The White Lady is one of the most legendary ghosts, appearing in Czech castles, chateaux and fortresses. Within the wide range of castle and chateau ghosts, she is also one of the most dignified apparitions, usually only appearing quietly, passing you and then disappearing again. The ghost of the White Lady is usually appears in the castle and chateau in Jindrichuv Hradec, in the chambers of Trebon, Cesky Krumlov and Telc.
You can see a famous picture of the lady in a white dress in Rozmberk Castle. The legends most frequently state that she represents the Rozmberk noblewoman Perchta, married to John of Liechtenstein. However the marriage was an unhappy one from the very start and the husband cursed Perchta in the end. The White Lady began to appear in the Rozmberk residences sometime around Perchta’s death in 1476 and was the harbinger of impending death, fire or new addition to the family for centuries after to the members of her family. |
