You will go to Europe in the winter by your own car or minivan or bus? Here is some useful information about using of winter tires in Europe - Czech Republic, Austria, Hungary, Slovak Republic, Germany, Switzerland, Poland etc. The overview, in which countries you will need winter tires or chains please, see below

Austria: winter tires are required by the traffic law from 1 November until 15 April you must have four winter tires. The chains are allowed to be on two tires only, the ones connected to the driving axle.

Czech Republic: winter tires are required by the traffic law from 1 November until 30 April during periods of winter conditions  

Slovak Republic (Slovakia): winter tires are required by the traffic law from 15 November until 31 March under snowy conditions, chains are necessary in the mountainous areas.

Hungary: winter tires are not required by the law, but the car must carry a set of snow-chains during periods of winter conditions.

Poland: winter tires are not required by the law, but the most motorist associations highly recommend the use of winter tires for insurance reasons

Germany: winter tires are required by the law during periods of winter conditions

Switzerlend: winter tires are not required by the law, but the most motorist associations highly recommend the use of winter tires for insurance reasons.

Also do not forget that headlights must be used at day and night throughout the year! Do not forget to buy road tickets! Do not forget that tourists coming to Europe are required to have an International Drivers’ Permit !
